Despite constant improvements in healthcare provision in Mental Health, one area continues to provide difficulty and that is the safe and professional transfer of patients from one facility to another, including court attendances, hospital and dental appointments and funerals to name but a few.
.................................................................................

Traditionally, the ambulance and police service have been utilised at great expense to emergency service resources. Rapid & Secure provide a nurse led comprehensive, professional and efficient service for the movement of any patients with mental health illness and anti social behaviour. Our service is available to both public and private sectors.

.................................................................................

The services offered have been developed after consultation with the Home Office Mental Health Division and Mental Health Services around the country. That said, each patient journey and customer is dealt with on an individual basis with provision adjusted and planned to meet specific requirements.

The Operations Department deal with the logistics and staffing requirements to facilitate all transfers. Rapid & Secure provide a registered mental health nurse with every patient requiring transfer detained under the Mental Health Act (1983), and is responsible for the safe transfer of the section papers. This ensures the level of care received by the patient during the transfer is maintained to the customer’s standard and that all aspects of the Mental Health Act (1983) are adhered to and the provision of safeguarding patients rights.

Rapid & Secure staff come from a variety of backgrounds and have significant experience within the health profession, including learning disabilities, child and adolescent services, and adult mental health services. A full risk assessment is carried out for each individual patient and depending on the level of risks identified, a suitable team will be deployed to suit the patient’s individual needs. All escorts remain under the instruction and guidance of the RMN, who is the team leader. Patients who are on an informal basis and not detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) do not a require a nurse on the vehicle. All of our staff complete a full training regime as part of their induction, which includes First Aid, Physical Intervention, Manual Handling and Handcuff training. In every event, de-escalation is priority and approved restraint techniques will only ever be used as a last resort and with prior permission from the despatching unit.

Rapid & Secure use a variety of vehicles for transfer including cars, people carriers, mini buses and secure vehicles when required. All vehicles are unmarked with tinted windows to provide the privacy and anonymity our patient’s and passengers are entitled to.
