All of our nurses and healthcare assistants are provided by Debonair Nursing Services who is a sister company to Rapid & Secure Ltd. We have a provision of Registered Mental Health Nurses available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Patients requiring transportation who are detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) will be accompanied by a nurse who will lead all interactions and interventions with the patient and will be responsible for the safe transfer of section papers.

Whilst all staff are trained in Physical Intervention techniques, they will only be used as a last resort and always under the instruction of the nurse. De-escalation is a priority for every event. Upon completion of the transfer, all relevant documentation and a full handover will be given to the receiving authority before departing on the return journey. Upon return to the office, Rapid & Secure staff will complete a full nursing report and breakdown of any incidents and interventions. This will then be entered onto our database and a the report will be forwarded to the customer for inclusion in the patient’s notes.

Rapid & Secure database is covered by the Data Protection Act (1974) and is the only database that stores information into how mental health patients travel throughout the UK and internationally. Times of change can be very traumatic for people, particularly those suffering from mental ill health. Our service is designed specifically to help the patient through this by providing safety, understanding and psychiatric support whilst needed.
Patients can often find the transportation between locations stressful and upsetting. It is therefore important to record individual patient’s behaviour so that this information can be used for risk assessment purposes on repeat moves. This information provides us with an insight and understanding into the patients that we transfer.
Medication Policy
It is anticipated that a full risk assessment for the required journey will be carried out by the commissioning party and that in conjunction with this, the MO will offer or enforce as appropriate the medication suitable for giving the patient the most comfortable journey possible. Not every eventuality can be planned for, so where given authority, the accompanying RMN will be prepared to administer PRN medication within Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines. However, they must be issued with an appropriate drug prescription chart and suitably dispensed medication. They will not administer poorly labelled or non-prescribed medications. The nurses will not be carrying any pharmaceutical supplies except for a basic First Aid Kit with pulse-oximeter and digital blood pressure monitors.
Under RSL terms of business, each nurse is hired by the customer as a temporary employee. Therefore, they are permitted to operate within the remit of their qualification. Whilst we wholeheartedly disapprove of unnecessary use of tranquilisers and anxiolytics, there is no justification for a patient to travel in any undue discomfort on what is most likely a disconcerting experience for them.
RSL thank you for your cooperation in maintaining the rights and needs of the patient / client for the smooth transfer between facilities.
