Medication Policy

It is anticipated that a full risk assessment for the required journey will be carried out by the commissioning party, and that in conjunction with this, the M.O. will offer or enforce as appropriate, the medication suitable for giving the patient the most comfortable trip possible.

Obviously, not every eventuality can be planned for, so where given authority, the accompanying RMN/ RGN will be prepared to administer PRN medication within Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines. However, they must be issued with an appropriate prescription chart, and suitable dispensed medication. They will not administer poorly labelled or non prescribed medicines. The nurses will not be carrying any medical or pharmaceutical supplies, except for First Aid. We do not move Trauma Patients on our vehicles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under RSL terms of business, each nurse is hired by the customer as a temporary employee, therefore, permitted to operate within the remit of their qualification.

Whilst we wholeheartedly disapprove of unnecessary use of tranquilizers and anxiolytics, there is no justification for a patient to travel in any undue discomfort, on what is most likely a disconcerting experience for them.

RSL thank you for your co-operation in maintaining the rights and needs of the patient/client for the smooth transfer between facilities.

Safeguarding Patient's Rights

The current provisiovn for those suffering from mental ill health is intended to maintain their safety and that of those around them. It is also intended to ensure the vulnerable unwell person receives appropriate treatment at their time of need. This is dictated by the Mental Health Act 1983, and is an inalienable human right as laid down by the European Parliament, Article 3.

R & S provide a service aiding movement and care of any patient/client informal or detained.
At present patients/clients with mental illnesses in crisis can sometimes be delayed from receiving treatment and held in inappropriate surroundings. Verbally or physically aggressive patients are still entitled to treatment without prejudice which is not always an easy task. With the availability of R & S this problem is easily remedied.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Times of change be very traumatic for many people, particularly mentally ill, and our service is designed specifically help the individual through this, by providing understanding and psychiatric support where needed. Any category of patient will be moved or monitored by our staff on completion of risk assessment.

At all times, staff will respect and safeguard their patient's legislative rights, whilst maintaining the patient's values and dignity, through professionalism, dedication and a firm belief in the service they provide.
